WHY SHOULD I CARE?
A large percentage of the human brain and by extension the peripheral nervous system are dedicated to touch, breath, movement, and focused attention. As a self-help modality, harnessing ALL these dynamics together on specific areas of the physical body activates a greater somatic awareness. This in turn, as many practitioners have reported, initiates a profound healing, inner-transformation, and awakening. This is the essence and purpose of SomatoRespiratory Integration (SRI) education which unfolds the 12 Stages of Healing. Just 5-10 minutes of this body-centered approach can significantly enhance personal growth / spiritual practices such as meditation and yoga, as well as other mind-body modalities. Bodyworkers and healthcare practitioners of all kinds have enthusiastically proclaimed the utility and effectiveness of including SRI education in their modality ‘toolbox’. It’s uniqueness is using ‘stuck’ regions of somato-emotional tension as FUEL towards greater healing and wholeness.
Understanding how valuable energy can get trapped in layers of tension in the first place helps to explain the magic of SRI education and why it is so powerfully effective.
When stressful or traumatic events are experienced and the brain perceives them as being emotionally ‘charged’ and unsafe to fully or completely experience , the bodymind has a tendency to create a defensive barrier around the vibration of the trauma; this redirects energy away from it to prevent us from feeling excessively overwhelmed - a type of 'coping mechanism'.
A defensive, sympathetic, and fight/flight posture results from this 'protective' process which includes adverse chronic tension in multiple regions of the spinal cord. Over time, this tension can develop muscular spasm, spinal distortion, pain syndromes, rigidity in breath and mobility in those areas. During this ‘protective’ process the frontal lobe of the cerebral cortex of the brain loses awareness of that walled-off area. By the time most of us are adults, we have multiple sequestered / isolated parts of ourselves that are not in communication with the rest of the bodymind and therefore cannot share its energy, insights, and wisdom.
SRI protocol makes use of stored or trapped tension as fuel for healing and expanded awareness. The process for ‘mining’ that fuel involves assisting the brain in identifying and connecting to the vibration underneath the tension. When that vibration is recognized and validated through focused attention, specific breath and movement patterns, and authentic sound, the energy locked within the tension can instantaneously become available for more expansive and nuanced levels of awareness, greater internal resources, and personal insights.
SRI provides a uniquely gentle and systematic way to create the necessary internal safety for the pre-frontal cortex to “find” those alienated parts so the trapped energy can be freed and integrated within a context of ease and increased wholeness. The energy that is spontaneously made available then productively fuels the next levels of healing. In this way, our ‘wound’ directly becomes our ‘medicine’.
This process is entirely somatic (body-centered) and does not involve revisiting mental stories of past traumas or current stressful moments. Through specific patterns of touch, breath, movement and focused attention, the body’s innate wisdom itself is enabled to effortlessly do the needed healing without distracting or derailing the process with mental concepts.
“I was so pleasantly amazed by the results of the SRI Workshop. Discovering more of our body’s innate healing abilities in this unusual way is remarkable. What I loved about this physical process & techniques is there's no need to overthink it or search out the deep-seated "why's"... the body just knows how to release through touch, breath, movement, sounds, and energetic signals. I felt blessed with immediate benefits and less pain in just 4 hours! So amazing! Dr. Freddy & Jenna were very effective teachers and insightful. I feel very grateful indeed.” ~ JP
“I have learned many self-help techniques over the years, and SRI is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It is simultaneously a balm for my habitual mental/physical tensions; a mirror for my blind spots; a well of spontaneous happiness I never knew was in me. It has given me a way to intimately relate to myself with the care I have craved. Miraculously, it bypasses what has always gotten in my way... my head! Every SRI tutorial I’ve had with Doc Freddy has been a revelation; but when I took his workshop and experienced all 12 stages in one sitting, my adoration for this modality became awe. Getting to learn it from someone who has practiced it profoundly for decades has its own magic that can't be overstated. His mastery is a gift that he shares generously with deep understanding and a big dose of humor! I couldn’t be more grateful.” ~JH
“SRI is like a gateway to your inner soul. Doc Freddy is the perfect teacher and collaborator to help induce your nervous system to return to parasympathetic state from fight or flight. His teachings, touch, and engagement allow you to contact an inner peace your bodymind was searching for. I found my meditation and yoga practice was profoundly enhanced since this workshop. If you're thinking about taking an individual or group session, don't hesitate.
Your body, mind and soul will experience a beautiful journey it's longed to go on.” ~DH
“SRI relies on innate intelligence from one’s own intimate embodiment to unleash relief. Waves of energy, unlocked by authentic statements, the interior touch of breathing & the external palpation of palms, facilitate a freer-flowing inner ecosystem of health. I am fascinated & fortunate to have found a lifetime ally through SRI, facilitated by Dr. Fred’s lively & loving guidance, offering his expertise genuinely & generously.”~HR

There is an ancient Vedic cognition that the human feeling/emotional field within the body has its origins and roots in subtle energy centers. When the life-force / prana flow in the body moves downward or upward a different expression of emotion can be discerned at the specific corresponding level. A meditative process has emerged from this understanding that elegantly and effectively de-links one’s identity and attachment (in a healthy way without disassociation or suppression) to the storms of emotion and additionally shifts the internal state to a higher level of awareness and insight. This self-help meditation process has been found to be invaluable to BUST STRESS in daily life and to manifest more serenity and clarity of consciousness in the midst of activities and responsibilities.
NOTE: The SRI practice and this type of meditation are different self-help modalities but found to be mutually supportive and enhancing.
